Zealous Women Band Together to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

Posted On:Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Members of Zelle Hofmann
Beginning July 2009, the women in Zelle Hofmann's Dallas office organized a team for Dallas' 2009 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. After the team was assembled, the group met in August to further discuss this important and endearing cause. Through their involvement, the team learned that every three minutes another woman is diagnosed with breast cancer (meaning one out of every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime). These statistics, combined with the fact that many of our Zealous Women have had someone near to us suffer through this disease, quickly drove our team to set a tremendous donation goal of $5,000

After two months of hard work, our small team (one of the smallest corporate teams to participate in the event) earned 87% of our goal (with a few donations to still be turned in and documented) and landed in the Top 20 corporate teams. We were very excited to see our hard work pay off through our determination and dedication to Susan G. Komen.

The day of the event, October 17, began bright and early at 6:30 a.m. Our team met, dressed in our matching "team" bandanas to take pictures and soak in the atmosphere of excitement, love, and support for breast cancer research. Our group had a mix of runners and walkers, but everyone completed the 5k event. The day was full of many touching experiences and memories that will last a lifetime for our team members. We participated with over 30,000 people who turned out to support such a great organization, and witnessed many breast cancer survivors proudly showing their survivor gear while marching in a survivor parade that touched the hearts of everyone there.

We had a wonderful time with our office team and are looking forward to participating again next year.
